How to choose a crossbow?
🎯 For casual short-range shooting (10 to 20 m)
Go for a pistol crossbow between 50 and 120 lbs.
Perfect for backyard fun on a target! Lightweight, easy to handle, and simple to cock.
🏹 For more serious shooting at 30–50 meters
Choose a recurve crossbow (no cams), between 150 and 185 lbs.
➡️ The advantage: you can change the string yourself with a simple stringer — no special tools required.
A great balance of power, simplicity, and efficiency.
🚀 For long-range precision (50 to 100+ meters)
You’ll need a compound crossbow with at least 400 FPS (feet per second).
High-end models are very accurate, even at long distances
At equal power, a low-end crossbow won’t match in accuracy beyond 80–90 m
🧠 The special case: Excalibur crossbows
An excellent choice for enthusiasts!
They’re recurve crossbows, but just as powerful as compound models —
without the drawbacks (no press needed to change the string, easier maintenance).
