Are crossbows legal to buy freely?

➡️ They are therefore freely available to anyone over 18 years old.

You can freely buy a crossbow, just like any other sports or leisure item.
➡️ You may simply be asked to show an ID to prove your age.

Even if they are freely available, crossbows are forbidden for hunting in France.
